The Cradle of the Mamuthones and Issohadores in Mamoiada
A tour of the historic places in Mamoiada linked to the Mamuthones and Issohadores, the oldest masks of the Sardinian Carnival. Every day, by reservation.
The Cradle of the Mamuthones and Issohadores (La Culla dei Mamuthones e Issohadores) is the Museum of Mediterranean Masks experience that takes you out of the museum and into the historic places of Mamoiada linked to its two masks: the Mamuthones, with their sheepskins and cowbells, and the Issohadores, with their red jackets and the “soha”, the rope they use to catch spectators.
How it works
It runs every day, by reservation, and is also designed to round off a visit to the museum. Places are limited, so it’s best to book ahead. From €10 per person for the individual option (up to 15 people); groups of at least 15 people get a dedicated rate.
Frequently asked questions
Can it be combined with a museum visit?
Yes, that’s the best way to do it: first the museum to understand the ritual, then the places where it was born. Ask the museum for available times.
How long does it last?
The length depends on the group and the route: ask the museum when you book.
